Manufacturing and the PA Industrial Resource Centers: Drivers of Pennsylvania’s Economy Video

Recently, the Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Centers (IRCs) released their 2020 annual report video, which outlines the strides our state’s manufacturing industry has made this year in terms of the number of established manufacturing companies, job creation, dollars of goods produced and the number of exported goods – all despite the onset of COVID-19.

With the support of the national Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Program, the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development, our clients and our outstanding team members, the Innovative Manufacturers’ Center (IMC) has played a key role in moving our regional manufacturers forward. Free CNC Machine Training for 2021

The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI) is offering a new, online CNC machine training program for manufacturers in spring 2021.

An optional weeklong in-person pilot bootcamp training in summer 2021 is also being offered in collaboration with Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, Tennessee. Future in-person training will be offered across the U.S. after this pilot project.

This training is part of the America’s Cutting Edge (ACE) program, a national initiative for machine tool technology development and advancement supported by the Department of Defense Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment program at ORNL. The ACE program’s intent is to train the next generation machine tool workforce, including future manufacturing engineers, machine tool designers, entrepreneurs and machinists.

The program is free, but registration is required. Registration is open and will remain open through the first few months of 2021.

Note that the online training is a stand-alone offering. Students who finish the online training with a grade of 70% or higher will receive a certificate of completion from IACMI and a copy of Machining Dynamics: Frequency Response to Improved Productivity. The in-person training is completely optional.

Project N95 Seeks Volunteers and Domestic Manufacturers of PPE

Project N95 is a nonprofit organization created as a rapid response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization serves as a national clearinghouse for critical personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical supplies. It provides a trusted, transparent and simplified way to navigate the complexities of the PPE market. Since May 2020, Project N95 has delivered more than 2 million units of PPE to protect health care and front-line workers and has partnered with medical societies including the American College of Physicians, American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Medical Association to name a few.

As Project N95 works closely with health care workers, we continue to hear from them about the lack of adequate access to needed PPE. As the pandemic continues and schools reopen, we are actively seeking ways to help our essential workers. Many Project N95 buyers are interested in purchasing products manufactured in the U.S. and Project N95 is actively seeking supplier partners.

If you’re interested in participating in Project N95 on a voluntary basis, please visit and complete their Domestic Manufacturing Interest Form. For more information about Project N95, contact Karen Carswell of MassMEP (Massachusetts MEP Center) at karenc@massmep.org.
