Arc Flash Training

July 13 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

$195

Electricity, Voltage, Light, EnergyArc flash is the spontaneous surge of electrical energy across a gap that is caused by a short circuit that causes an initial rush of electricity, which then ionizes the air making it conductive to electricity when it otherwise isn’t. This causes a huge surge of electrical energy to flow to ground through the ionized air with potentially catastrophic results, including devastating injuries, death and / or extensive property damage.

In a manufacturing plant, it could not only require tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of electrical equipment to be replaced, but it could shut down production for days or weeks while waiting for the replacement equipment. It could also cause a devastating fire, including a totally engulfed facility. The following topics are addressed so you can understand what arc flash is, recognition of conditions that could lead to an arc flash and how to mitigate those conditions. It also teaches electricians appropriate PPE and the proper way to activate and deactivate electrical disconnects to minimize the risk of injury or death to themselves or others.

Subjects covered in this topic:

  • Introduction to Arc Flash
  • Causes of Electric Arcs
  • The Nature of Electrical Arcs
  • Hazards of Arcing Faults
  • Probability of Survival
  • Impacts of Arc Flash
  • Potential Exposure to Arc Flash
