DFARS Interim Rule

The long awaited “Interim Rule” that will replace DFARS 7012 has been published and will take effect November 30th.

ALL current DoD contractors will have to do 2 things.

1. All contractors will have to submit self-assessments of their compliance to NIST SP 800-171. This is based on the DoD Assessment Methodology. Also, the DoD itself will continue to conduct remote and onsite audits using the methodology. This requirement will be in effect starting Dec 1.

2. All contractors will have to get certified to the appropriate CMMC certification when it is added to their contracts (it will take 5 years to complete this implementation). Contractors must also ensure that all of their suppliers (who are participating in the DoD Contract) have the appropriate CMMC certification level.
