SUMMARY:Webinar: A Systems Thinking Approach for Manufacturers to IIoT
DESCRIPTION:Print PDFPrintAs noted in Garry Kasparov’s most recent book\, a good team + a good computer will consistently beat having only a great computer or a grandmaster. The same is true for manufacturers looking to compete in the new world of Industry 4.0\, and the wave of technologies being introduced as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). \nThe winning companies will not simply be those who purchase the best or the most technology\, but those who can iteratively integrate it into their current systems in a way that incrementally improves cash flow\, reduces cycle time\, and minimizes downside risk through many\, small steps and continuous learning in between. The companies with the best problem solvers will win. In this view\, new technologies will enable our employees to solve new classes of problems more quickly\, with deeper visibility into the entire supply chain. Join Dr. John F. Carrier from MIT on March 13th to learn a systems thinking approach to the IIoT. \n\n\n\nThis webcast will:\n\n\n\n\nReview the 5 key technologies of the IIoT\nDiscuss the concept of the “hidden factory\,” and how the IIoT will help companies better address this classic\, systemic problem inherent in all systems\nShow how the IIoT can be used to re-invigorate your Lean and Six Sigma efforts to produce a new level of synchronization and performance\nProvide examples of companies “winning” the problem-solving game in the age of IIoT\, and how they are building dynamic competitive advantage within their supply chains\n\nSpeaker \nDr. John F. Carrier\, Senior Lecturer\, System Dynamics Group\, MIT Sloan School of Management \nDr. John F. Carrier is a Senior Lecturer in the System Dynamics Group at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He has spent over 25 years diagnosing and eliminating hidden factories in the oil & gas\, petrochemical\, discrete manufacturing\, and research laboratory facilities\, saving these organizations hundreds of millions of dollars while reducing operating risk. He also works with companies to successfully integrate the technology of the Industrial Internet of Things into their existing organization\, with a distinct focus on developing front line leaders in the culture of improvement. \nHe currently runs a popular MIT Executive Education course on Implementing IIoT through Continuous Improvement Leadership (https://tinyurl.com/yafmbdqe). He also co-teaches an MBA course with Professor John DC Little (Little’s Law). \nDr. Carrier holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan\, an ScD in Control Systems from MIT\, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. \n\nRegister \nBy clicking above\, I acknowledge and agree to Informa’s Terms of Service and to Informa’s use of my contact information to communicate with me about offerings by Informa\, its brands\, affiliates and/or third-party partners\, consistent with Informa’s Privacy Policy. SUMMARY:Webinar: The 5 Building Blocks of Digital Transformation Strategy
DESCRIPTION:Print PDFPrintIndustrial manufacturing companies are innovating and changing the way they work. In addition to improving manufacturing and asset management within the four walls of the digital factory\, savvy industrial manufacturers are digitizing the supply chain and service operations and increasing integration with customers and suppliers. Real-time insights into product performance and process data fuel cross-functional collaboration; sensors in equipment alert before abnormalities lead to a breakdown; 3D printing creates new opportunities for spare part and inventory management; and realtime information from suppliers and customers facilitates forecasting and improves production planning. \nThese innovations also usher in new challenges.  This webinar delivers insights to help executives beat back the challenges of digital transformation to win. Hear about lessons learned and best practices in the core digital building blocks: Strategy\, technology\, operations\, people\, and security. \n\nStrategy: It’s difficult not to leap at innovations\, but many digital transformations disintegrate into digital disasters if you take a technology-first approach without first defining your digital strategy. Before investing in new technologies\, consider your digital maturity and set clear objectives. Evaluate customer needs within the context of their business strategies and core capabilities. Prioritize around efforts that will drive the greatest value\, and ensure these align with your strategy.\nTechnology: Successful industrial companies require highly specific capabilities like APM\, digital factories\, supply chain optimization\, and field services optimization. They need digital platforms that are designed from the ground up to handle the unique rigors of asset-intensive companies. The industry’s first-movers are turning to cloud-based platforms designed specifically for the industrial internet to serve as the foundation of scalable enterprise solutions.\nOperations:  As innovations garner a great deal of attention\, the question becomes: “How can we leverage the same enablers to customize\, produce\, and deliver our products faster and more efficiently than our competitors?” In a digital economy where customers increasingly demand speed\, flexibility\, and customization\, this view is now essential. Customer loyalty is waning\, as technology companies raise the bar. Smart digital operations are requiring vastly different approaches.\nPeople: As manufacturers invest in digitization\, they still need people to work alongside robots. As obvious as that seems\, many companies miss it\, and that means they miss one of the most powerful ways to influence the success of their digital labor program.\nSecurity: Disruptions to the flow of information among connected devices\, physical interference with equipment\, and unauthorized access to sensitive consumer information can do significant damage to a companies’ operations\, infrastructure\, and reputation. Yet few organizations have implemented an IoT cybersecurity program. The stakes are too high to ignore this challenge.\n\nThe first movers who are already transforming their digital enterprise are beating back the challenges around the core building blocks. Join this webinar on February 27 to hear case studies and proven practices to transform to smart factories and products. \nSpeaker \n\nSteve Pillsbury\, PwC Digital Operations Leader \nSteve is the digital operations leader at PwC\, leading operations and strategy engagements for manufacturers. His team helps manufacturers define and execute strategies to modernize their operations through digital/IIoT enablement\, including digital factories\, connected supply chains\, new manufacturing methods\, connected field services\, and the full digitization of product development. Steve has worked with IIoT sellers to help them develop innovations that address the outcomes manufacturers seek\, and has worked with IIoT buyers to help them define the art of the possible and incorporate digital capabilities into their operations. \n \nTechnical Details \nThis webinar will be conducted using a slides-and-audio format.  After you complete your registration\, you will receive a confirmation email with details for joining the webinar. \nRegister \nBy clicking above\, I acknowledge and agree to Informa’s Terms of Service and to Informa’s use of my contact information to communicate with me about offerings by Informa\, its brands\, affiliates and/or third-party partners\, consistent with Informa’s Privacy Policy. SUMMARY:Webinar: Building Resilience Against Cyber Shocks
DESCRIPTION:Print PDFPrintThe smart factory is at the heart of Industry 4.0. Here\, advanced software enables machines to communicate and make decisions\, while artificial intelligence\, robotics\, and 3-D printing transform the way products are made and people perform work. But Industry 4.0 also creates new risks and requires manufacturers to integrate security and privacy safeguards into their businesses and throughout their ecosystem — from suppliers to customers. Without these safeguards\, manufacturers are vulnerable to cyber shocks — that is\, large-scale events with cascading disruptive consequences — has never been more important. \nMany manufacturing companies in PwC’s 2018 Global State of Information Security Survey say that despite an awareness of disruptive cyber risks\, they remain unprepared to deal with them. This suggests that even though manufacturers are thinking more strategically about cyber risk management\, they stand on purely defensive footing against cyber risks and are just beginning to adopt leading practices and technologies to fight cyber risk. \nIndustrial Manufacturers know they need a significant and sustained uplift of talent and technology to fight cyber risk.  A sophisticated adversary can too easily target many Industrial Manufacturing companies. \nThis webinar explores where industrial manufacturers are most vulnerable to cyber disruptions – and how organizations can build integrated safeguards to sustain operations and avoid the common pitfalls. \nSpeaker \nE. Quentin Orr\, Consulting Partner\, PwC \nPwC consulting partner\, E. Quentin Orr\, or Q\, has 20 years of business experience focused on consulting with companies on information security and governance. He has extensive experience in the Industrial Products. Q works with clients to take a business focused approach to cyber security\, by guiding their strategy to focus on the most critical information that represents a competitive advantage and drives top and bottom line revenue. He then helps clients develop tailored\, economically feasible approaches to maximize the efficiency of their scarce security resources. \nTechnical Details \nThis webinar will be conducted using a slides-and-audio format. Future success will be achieved by adopting an enhanced mindset focused on anticipation\, preparation\, and action in regards to delivering excellence to both internal and external customers. The future of our EHS profession is in the capable hands of those who understand that we must evolve to the point of transformation at a rate slightly higher than the speed of business and of those who embrace a relentless drive to exceed mission requirements.\n\n\n \n\nDanny Shields\, CSP\nDirector\, Industry Relations\nAvetta\, LLC  \n\n\n\nWhere Do We Find OHS Within the Sustainability Movement? \nAlthough initially not recognized as an important aspect of sustainability\, increasing occupational safety and health (OSH) and supply chain continuity and reliability have raised the profile of OSH in the sustainability conversation.
