OSHA Is Updating the HazCom Standard to Better Align with GHS

April 15, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

OSHA recently published a long-awaited notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) that would update its Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom) to align with Revision 7 of the UN’s Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The proposed revisions would have far-reaching impact throughout the chemical supply chain, including the need for hazardous chemical manufacturers to A) reclassify certain chemicals, B) reauthor safety data sheets (SDSs), and C) develop new shipped container labels; and for end-users to manage a wave of updated SDSs and shipped labels in their inventory, and to update their own HazCom practices accordingly. The public comment period for the NPRM ends on April 19, 2021.

This live webinar will review the background of the NPRM and the proposed changes, taking a close look at significant changes, such as the introduction of new classifications for several categories of chemicals, changes to requirements for labeling, and changes to select hazard and precautionary statements.

Register today for an in-depth look at OSHA’s NPRM so you can make sure your business and your people are well-prepared.

This webinar includes:

  • A brief review of the HazCom Standard and the previous alignment of the Standard with GHS Revision 3 due via the 2012 final rule
  • A discussion of proposed changes to classifications of several categories of hazardous chemicals and the industries most likely to be impacted by the changes
  • An explanation of proposed changes to labeling requirements for “small” and “very small” containers, proposed updates to hazard and precautionary statements, and proposed changes that would better align hazard communication requirements between the United States and Canada
  • An analysis of the next steps to expect following the NPRM and best practices that chemical users throughout the supply chain can take to prepare for future changes and maintain compliance with the HazCom Standard
